My World is Spinning

AHHH! It won't stop spinning!!!!Literally. As I sit at my desk and type this, I feel like I am on the Tilt-A-Whirl at the fair spinning 'round and 'round. Seriously. Do you know how difficult it is to sit, stare at a screen and type when your world is spinning?! I’ll give you a clue… IT’S NOT EASY!
A few years ago, I woke up one morning and could not get out of the bed. Every time I went to stand up, I would just lean to the right and fall back into the bed. My world was spinning. This was the first encounter I had with my not so nice friend, Vertigo. Since that day, Vertigo and I have had a love-hate relationship. It loves to sneak up and mess with me every 4-6 months or so, and I absolutely hate it! I hate it, because I cannot control it. Vertigo has to do with my inner ear. Most of the time, like today, I have a little bit of congestion and BAM it goes to my ear and the spinning begins. It’s horrible. I feel you're pain too kid...I'm about to barf!Literally, I feel like that helpless small child whose parent put them on the Tilt-A-Whirl at the fair against their will and there is no sign of getting off. I feel your pain, kid… I’m about to barf, too!
When I “spin” like this, it bothers me the most because I cannot make it stop. It has to run it’s course and then the “ride” comes to an end, and I can go on functioning as usual. However, for those hours or even days that it’s running its course, I am totally out of control. And I like control. (Just being honest.) And if you were being honest, you’d probably say you like control too.
I hope that you are not literally spinning like me, but your world might be figuratively spinning. Your world might be in utter chaos, and you have no idea how to get it under control. Pure chaos.Things could be going wrong left and right, and you have no clue how to deal with it. I too have been there, and it is not a fun place to be. If this is you today, cling tight to the fact that no matter how much your “world spins”, no matter the confusion, no matter the chaos, God is a sovereign God. What does that mean? It simply means that everything in and on this earth is God’s, and He is in control of it all. It might not seem like it, but He is. He is always working and is always moving.
There is scripture after scripture that tells us how everything belongs to God and He is in control over all. David tells us in 1 Chronicles 29:11 that everything is His. “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” Even though our worlds might be spinning, God is still holding us in His hands and protecting us, and what an incredible comfort that is to us. He is in control.
I want to end this post with two things. First, a few words from an incredible preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who wrote many life changing sermons in the 1800’s. Then after Spurgeon’s words, a verse from a song by Hillsong called None But Jesus.
Spurgeon said, “There is no attribute more comforting to His children, than that of God's sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe trials--they believe that sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that sovereignty overrules them, and that sovereignty will sanctify them all. There is nothing for which the children of God ought more earnestly to contend, than the doctrine of their Master over all creation--the kingship of God over all the works of His own hands--the throne of God and His right to sit upon that throne. Knowing God is in total and complete control of our lives, gives complete and utter peace to those who trust Him. To know that our lives are in His control removes the burden and worry of the future.”
None But Jesus by Hillsong
“In the chaos, in confusion, I know You’re Sovereign still.
In the moment of my weakness You give me grace to do Your will.”
Thank you, Lord, that you are in control of everything and when our worlds are spinning, you give us the grace to keep on going.
