Heart Flutter...

It’s Valentines Day. (Just call me Captain Obvious!) A lot of people have a lot of different thoughts when it comes to Valentines Day. Some people love it and go all out with personalized valentines for all their friends and families. However, on the other hand, some people hate it. They choose to wear black and not speak a kind word to anyone. Me? It’s just another day. When I think about Valentines Day and love and all that gushy stuff, I think of a nickname I gave a guy friend several years ago, Flutter! I called him that because he made girls hearts flutter every time they saw him. Me? Not so much. However, I loved watching other girls when he walked in the room. There was a whole lot of fluttering going on!
So what in the world does the word flutter have to do with anything? Well, let’s find out. First we need to look to Webster to define what flutter really is. Webster defines flutter as A commotion; a stir. My friend was a flutter. For some odd reason he made the hearts of many girls go pitter-patter! He would stir something in their hearts that would create commotion. So, now that we know what a flutter is, I would like to stop and ask the question; what make’s God’s heart flutter?
Matthew 9:35-38 says, Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Matthew 18:12-14 says, “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”
I think God’s heart flutters over a whole lot of things, but in Matthew 9 we see that Jesus saw the lost and He had compassion. His heart fluttered for them. Something inside Him stirred for them. When His heart fluttered for them; He made His disciples aware of it. I believe He wanted their hearts to be stirred also. In chapter 18 we see that He would drop everything He was doing to find the one lost sheep. God’s heart flutters for the lost. He longs for them to be saved. He longs for His children to reach out to the lost and show them the love of God. He longs for our hearts to flutter for Him and the lost.
So what in the world does is have to do with anything? #1 Be thankful that over 2,000 years ago God’s heart fluttered so much for you that He sent His son to die for you. AND still to this day, and forever, His heart continues to flutter for you. #2 I challenge you to take on the example of Jesus and have your heart stir and flutter for the lost. “Break my heart for what breaks yours...” Allow God to totally capture your heart and ask Him to make your heart stir and flutter for that which makes His heart flutter. Allow your heart to flutter and cause a commotion and do whatever it takes to change the world! My prayer is that when people see me, they see a heart that flutters for God and His work. On this day of love, may that be the prayer of your heart also.
