"Who Knew?"

So, I’m about to get vulnerable and show you a side of myself that I don’t normally allow much of the world to see... my crunchy side. Yes I have one, though in comparison to Ginger’s it really doesn’t count. When it comes to food and products I put on/in my body, I tend to be a bit picky. I want to understand what the ingredients are, and what they are doing to me. My point? Well, let me tell you a little story.

About a month ago, I think it was a Tuesday; I had just gotten out of the shower and went to my vanity to go about my usual post scrub routine. When I picked up my moisturizer container I realized I was out. (Two notes- A: If you don’t moisturize everyday, you’d better start or just don’t tell my unless you’d like a lecture on the importance of daily moisturizing, B: When you have a baby it’s impossible to just “run” to the mall and grab a new moisturizer the day you run out of it. Learn to stockpile. I have now learned this the hard way). So, as I was about to panic for my pores, I remembered a pin from Pinterest, and a text message from my dear friend Lisa, about the benefits of coconut oil and all of the crazy things you can use it for, including moisturizer! SAVED! Moments later I had retrieved the oil from my kitchen (because in this house, that is the only place coconut oil had ever been used) and stared at it. I was nervous. The thought of putting oil on my face seemed so wrong. But I KNOW the consequences of going a day without moisturizing could be much worse. I mean, it is oil, moisture is kind of its job.

Well I did it, and it felt great! It absorbed super fast, and didn’t feel greasy or slimy. AND putting my makeup on top of it was a breeze. Since I liked that so much, I decided to use it on the rest of my body. Also amazing.

Now it’s time for hair. Don’t worry, I started to think I was going a bit overboard too, but just keep reading. I’m very much a creature of habit when it comes to body and hair care products. When I find something I like, I stick with it until it doesn’t seem to work anymore. So for a very long time now, when I came to hair I was a Moroccan Oil loyalist. But this day, since I had already gone this far (plus my hands were already covered in this stuff), I decided it was all or nothing. I ran my fingers through my hair and rubbed the oil in, the whole time having anxiety that I was about to be a big greasy mess. But to my surprise, as I went about the business of getting dressed and my hair began to dry I realized, I was not a greasy mess, in fact my waves were defined, and not frizzy, and really shiny!

At this point, I decided I had to see if this was a fluke or if this was something worth doing everyday. Thus began the crunchiest experiment of my life. From that day on I have used coconut oil in place of every body and hair product in my normal routine, except for cleansers of course. The verdict after 20-30 something days... I’m in love. My hair feels awesome. My pores have cleared and shrunken in appearance, and this stuff is the best eye makeup remover ever! It also does a killer job as a night and eye cream. Plus, as a result of applying this stuff to myself everyday my hands, especially my cuticles, look great! Another great perk is it’s CHEAP. $10 or less for a jar that will last MONTHS. I took a scoop full out of the jar I had in my kitchen and put it into a little tub for my bathroom. After a month, it doesn’t even look like I have used any. Umm, Yes PLEASE!

Well, now you know. I’m a little bit crunchy. But revealing that side of myself is worth it to share my awesome experiment with you! If you give it a try I hope you like it as much as I have.

If you don’t try it, don’t judge me. LOL.

Sorry this blog isn’t chock full of Godly insight or epiphany, but I couldn’t NOT share. Besides, in the scheme of things, moisturizer is REALLY important! Love your neighbor as yourself, right?! Well, part of loving yourself is taking care of what God gave you... and one giant part of that is skin. So there.    <3
