The Matryoshka

  Today I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite things... the matryoshka doll. (mat-tree-osh-ka) If you've known me for about a day, you might've noticed the many items I have with matryoshka dolls on them. It all started years ago after my siblings were adopted from Ukraine. I thought nesting dolls were cute but had never paid them much attention. However, after my third sister finally came to America, I started to notice the groups of Matryoshka dolls and would think about my sisters. It was something that reminded me of them, and then it became a symbol of big-sisterhood to me.

 The name came from the Russian woman's name Matryona or Matriyosha which was derived from the Latin "mater" (mother). A mother, a big sister, and a mentor can be there for us to follow. Also, the Matryoshka is cute, little reminder that you will inspire and mentor the other younger ones who follow after you, as well.

That's really awesome!! It's good how you see the different sizes in the Metroyshka doll and this reminds you of your sisters. That's sweet. I'm the youngest, so I follow and look up to my sisters, especially my big sister! I love the Metroyshka doll too. :)
