O Come Let Us Adore Him

I know what you are thinking...  Christmas music already?!? I know.  But if you knew me, you would be cracking up because I CANNOT stand Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving.  Yeah, it just should not be.  However, I also know that these lyrics are really powerful if you are to stop and think about them.

This week, I have been at a conference with fellow servants in the ministry, most of whom work with youth.  While at the conference, I heard some INCREDIBLE preaching and walked away with a ton of new knowledge and a renewed spirit. While the preaching was awesome, the best moment was during worship on the first night.  Matt Papa was leading worship, and he opened with a melody of random worship songs that just worked together.  What was the song in the middle?  "O Come All Ye Faithful."  Now it wasn’t the full song, it was just parts of it.

After hearing and singing these words I began to think... Before we go any further, I would like to look at Psalm 95.

O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord,
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God
And a great King above all gods,
In whose hand are the depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for it was He who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us worship and bow down,

Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture
and the sheep of His hand.
Today, if you would hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
“When your fathers tested Me,
They tried Me, though they had seen My work.
“For forty years I loathed that generation,
And said they are a people who err in their heart,
And they do not know My ways.
“Therefore I swore in My anger,
Truly they shall not enter into My rest.

I really like this passage.  To me, it gives a beautiful picture of what an incredible God we serve and how we should approach Him.  I know many times in my life I approach God in desperation.  I want something, I need something, I’m lifting someone or something up, and I’m asking Him to work in the situation.  It seems like we pray the most out of desperation.

One day in college, I had my iTunes on shuffle and the song “We Bow Down” began to play.  As I was sitting in the library studying, God and I had a moment as I was listening to the words of the song.  It was like my world stopped, and God simply spoke to me through the words.  As I heard the words “We fall down, we lay our crowns at the feet of Jesus.  The greatness of His mercy of love at the feet of Jesus...” BAM! God hit me right up 'side the head and spoke to me as plain as day.  “Meredith! So many times you fall before me out of desperation, but rarely do you fall before me out of adoration.” WOW... that hurt.  Ever since that moment, I consciously try to fall before God daily out of adoration.

Today, we are going to focus on adoration.  Verse 6 says “Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.”   God is so worthy of our adoration.  We can only begin to fathom all that He has done and will do for us.  I don’t know about you, but in my world that deserves all the adoration I can give.  I regret walking through life and only coming before God in times of desperation.  I know there are moments in our lives where we have to fall before God in desperation because we desperately need Him.  However, those are just moments that pass, but everyday we are given a new day and new mercies. Therefore, God is worthy of adoration everyday.  No excuses.  This is a hard thing for me to do sometimes.  It seems like I need to get all my requests in of what I “need” or I simply don’t make anytime to do so.  I have a challenge.  The challenge is not only for all of you, but also for me.  Everyday, no matter what, take time, literally fall before God, and show your adoration for Him.  We have so many reasons to ADORE Him.  Let’s not only tell Him, but show Him. "For He alone is worthy.  For He alone is worthy.  For He alone is worthy, Christ the Lord..."
