How Passionate Are You?

Is there anything you are crazy passionate about? Anything that just sparks this fire in your heart just by the thought of it? Well that has happened to me... in a big way. God has put an uncontrollable passion for His people in my heart that I can hardly contain. Lately all I can think about it going overseas and serving God's people. Specifically, I feel as if I am called to serve the beautiful people of Korah, Ethiopia. I have never been on a mission trip before, so it probably seems a little strange for me to be this fired up about something I know little about, but I cannot help it. It is consuming all of my thoughts and it makes it very hard to focus on anything else!

I am currently in school pursuing a degree in education and I like to consider myself a dedicated student who makes good grades. Although lately, I have found myself drifting away from my studies and daydreaming about being in Ethiopia. (My grades have not suffered, don't worry). I have always had a love for God's people and known I have wanted to be a teacher for quite sometime now. I work with the youth on a daily basis whether it is at the elementary school I work at, the youth ministry at church, or even here at GLAM, I am constantly working with God's people. Why I am so drawn to the youth I am not totally sure, but I know God created me to be a big sister of seven, a mentor, a childcare worker, a youth group leader, and His daughter for a reason.

I recently was introduced to this awesome girl named Coco who is friends with one of my younger brothers. My brother had been talking about this girl for a couple of weeks and I thought he was starting to like her honestly, but now that I know her, I know we were destined to meet each other. My brother told me her and I were so much alike that it freaked him out and I didn't know if I believed that until I met her, then it was like I was talking to myself that's how much we are alike. We got to talking after church last week and we started discussing the topic of missions. She asked me if I had ever been on one and of course I had to say no, but that I was set on going to Ethiopia. She looked at me with her eyes wide open and told me she just went to Ethiopia last summer. Well then I told her that I really feel called to one of the poorest parts of Ethiopia, that being Korah, and she literally jumped with joy telling me that is exactly where she went! What a God thing, right? I have only met a few people who have ever even heard of Korah before and here she is, this young girl just as passionate as I am about this place, who has been multiple times. A couple days later we were at church again and she brought me an example of a letter she wrote to help her fund her trip to Ethiopia, and ask for prayer. At the end of her letter she put a link to a video about the trip and I wanted to share it with you all:

Living for the lost

Loving ‘til it hurts

No matter what the cost

Like You loved me first

That’s the motion of mercy

God give me strength to give something for nothing

I wanna be a glimpse of the Kingdom that’s coming soon

Those lyrics above express my feelings in all completeness. Does this not put a passion in your heart for God's people? It literally fills me with joy and makes my heart smile. I WANT TO GO, RIGHT NOW! It's okay if you are not called to go on mission trips because there are plenty of opportunities to serve God's kingdom right where you are. I encourage you to be in prayer though, asking God to reveal ways you can serve His people, as I am praying that for myself, too. I also encourage you to be passionate about something and let nothing stop you from accomplishing whatever it is you are passionate about. God does not call us to be comfortable. Pray, listen to the things He tells you, and GO CHANGE THE WORLD. Good luck,

Love you girl, just love you. I just read what you wrote here and am not surprised that God put you on my heart yesterday when I met a girl who just came back from a year long missions trip with YYAM New Zealand. Praying for you and all you do and serve.
